Default Pan's Labyrinth

Wasn't sure which category i should put this.
One of the best foreign language films ever made.
Enjoyed it from start to finish and i hope they DO NOT try to remake it like they try with the Japanese films.
(The Grudge & The Ring to name but a few.)
By the way, if you would like another good foreign language film try 'Battle Royale'.
Japanese and another flick that should be left alone.

I thought this was a very beautiful movie. And I agree with Swan, the ending is very sad. D:

I've heard MANY good things about this, and I want to see it. Care for a quick, spoiler-free summary?

Spain, 1944. Officially, the Civil War has been over for five years, but a small group of rebels fights on unbroken in the northern mountains of Navarra. Dreamy 10-year-old Ofelia moves to Navarra with her delicate, pregnant mother Carmen, to become acquainted with her new stepfather, Captain Vidal, a Fascist officer under orders to rid the territory of rebels. Ofelia, who is fascinated by fairy tales, discovers an overgrown, tumbledown labyrinth behind the mill. In the heart of the labyrinth she meets an ancient faun who claims to know her true identity and her secret destiny. But first, she must complete three tasks before the moon grows full. And no one must know: not her ailing mother, or her new friend, Mercedes. Time is running out, for Ofelia and for the rebels. Both will have to battle hardship and cruelty in order to gain their freedom. But, who can be trusted in a time of lies and danger? Is the faun telling the truth...? And if not, who is?

My main issue with this movie were a few scenes of gratuitous violence. Yes, I used the word gratuitous because I don't think it added to the movie. You can make the viewer certain that someone is getting beaten without actually showing their face cave in when hit with a butt of a rifle. I know people that simply can't watch a movie that shows that - but otherwise would have enjoyed the story and the rest of it.

I LOVED it, it's currently in my top ten, i didn't think i'd like watching it with Sub-Titles but it gave it a awesome effect, fantastic movie.

I tend to really like foreign films with subtitles, and this one was no different. I disagree with the comment above that there was too much violence. I think it did add to movie because it showed how cruel the world really is and how evil some people are for power. Great movie. Great music too.
