Default The Night of the Hunter (1955)

I watched this again last night, and it was much better than what I can recall it being. What surprises me is that it's the only film Charles Laughton directed, but it's an amazing effort.

My favorite movie. It's brilliant, chilling, and a feast of impressive cinematography that just oozes a pitch-perfect atmosphere. I especially love that it's such an aberration compared to most other Hollywood films of that era. Robert Mitchum's performance is one of the greatest ever committed to film, and The Night of the Hunter is one of the greatest movies cinema has to offer.

Robert Mitchum's performance is definitely creepy, and I think he made the character believeable enough as a murderous, manipulative, deceptive, greedy and, ultimately, evil 'preacher'. I thought that the children were played really well, too.

The Night of the Hunter (1955) is a truly compelling, haunting, and frightening classic masterpiece thriller-fantasy, and the only film ever directed by the great British actor Charles Laughton. This is the one of my favorite movie.I would like to watch this movie again and again.
